Live - Tweeting Recap

I found this assignment to be intellectually challenging and stimulating. The challenge of being able to actively listen and report specific details through a written format was something I have never done before, but I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. I am going to adapt this to use in my own classroom in the future because this assignment practices conciseness and requires active listening skills.

I found it incredibly difficult to remember all of the intimate details of the events, and though we were not "required" to do this, I found myself wanting to try to get it all noted. I ended up having to take briefs notes of the days, times and locations, then I would go back and rewrite the form into a complete sentence.

I learned that I needed to practice my skills of listening without any visual cues such as captions, PowerPoints, or infographics. I have only ever had to actively listen in this way once during a Calculus 3 class which I promptly withdrew from not being able to keep up with the professor just lecturing at us about complicated math problems. This was easier than that because I was not required to learn content or be tested on it, but being unfamiliar with just relying on my auditory skills to take notes proved to me that I needed to do this more. This would help me improve my communication skills even in every day conversations.

The main notes I would say could have been improved with this activity would have been perhaps practicing twice. If we had started with just a single speaker with just one title who had spoken a little bit slower, this would have allowed me to scaffold my skills of how I would like to take on this challenge. That could have been a very short three to five minute video, then we would dive into a more challenging piece like the one we listened to that had multiple speakers who all talked quite fast. I also would have appreciated having their names and titles told to us ahead of time or written on the board, because I would have done that research before going to the event and would have that information handy anyways.
